PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium for a rewritable DVD disk system corresponding to high speed writing.

SOLUTION: This optical recording medium comprising a substrate 1 and a recording layer 3 disposed on the substrate 1 is characterized in that the recording layer 2 is formed by using a chelate compound comprising an azo-substituted quinoline compound represented by general formula (1) and a divalent metal salt (for example, a nickel or copper salt) as the recording material. Concretely, a compound (A-1) is exampled.
