<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a bleaching agent which is an extract from a plant belonging to Calanthe plants, Phaiusflavus(Blume) Lindl. plants, or other Orchidaceae plants having pseudo-bulbs or from their juices, and has an anti-tyrosinase activity. <P>SOLUTION: A 2-S-β-D-glucopyranosyl-3-o-β-D-glucopyranoxyl-2-thiol-3-hydroxyindole (calanthoside B) undiluted solution is obtained by washing the flowers, roots, stems, leaves or whole body of Calanthe discolor with water, finely cutting the washed material with a cutter, extracting the obtained fine pieces with water or an alcohol compound, or compressing the fine pieces to obtain a juice, and then repeatedly fractionating and eluting the water extract or alcohol extract, the juice or an extract from the juice with a combination of various kinds of chromatography. The undiluted solution is properly mixed with generally used auxiliary functional nutrients, such as vitamins, to obtain a bleaching agent.
