<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicular obstacle detection device capable of suppressing a situation that a driver mistakenly cannot recognize an obstacle located outside the range of the view field of the driver even when a plurality of obstacles are located inside and outside the range of the view field of the driver at a similar distance from a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: In the obstacle detection device comprising an ultrasonic sensor 10, a control device and an alarm, ultrasonic sensors 10a and 10b are arranged so as to discriminate whether or not a detected obstacle is located within a range of the view field of a driver depending on the detection of the obstacle by only one of the upper and lower ultrasonic sensors 10a and 10b, or by both of them. If an obstacle is detected, the control device 20 determines whether the obstacle is present in or out of the range of the view field of the driver, and also determines not only the distance of the obstacle like in a conventional system, but also whether or not the obstacle is located within the range of the view field for reporting by a reporting device. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
