PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: conventionally, in order to transfer liquid crystal display elements to bend alignment, a voltage supply line for transferring the alignment state besides a supply line of image signals is needed, and a signal switching means is also needed; and in the case of a liquid crystal display apparatus in a field sequential display system, the use efficiency of illumination light is poor. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display apparatus is provided with an LCOS in a batch transfer system to rewrite the entire screen at once. When a liquid crystal layer of the LCOS is transferred from splay alignment to bend alignment, a large voltage is applied as an applied voltage CE to a common electrode of the liquid crystal display element for 0.5 to 60 seconds from the start of transfer. Thus, even without a voltage generation circuit or the voltage supply line for transferring the alignment, the splay alignment is transferred to the bend alignment. Also, by superposing a pulse (a) having a prescribed peak value and pulse width of 2 seconds or less at the time of switching the field sequential image, black display is inserted.
