PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain tensioner capable of preventing a plunger from falling. SOLUTION: The plunger 13 and a spring 15 pressing the plunger 13 outward are assembled in the cylinder chamber 12 of a housing 11, and an oil feed passage 17 communicating with a pressure chamber 16 formed at the rear of the plunger 13 is formed in the housing 11. A guiding recessed part 31 axially extending long is formed in the outer periphery of the plunger 13, a stopper pin 33 is installed at the cylinder chamber opening end part of the housing 11, and the plunger 13 is locked by the contact of the end face 31b of the guiding recessed part 31 on the stopper pin 33.
