PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer latex for an oil-resistant paper which gives an oil-resistant paper suitably employable for food packaging, emitting quite a little amount of odors and excellent in oil resistance, blocking resistance and disintegrability. SOLUTION: The polymer latex for the oil-resistant paper comprising a polymer having a glass transition temperature of -20 to 50°C is obtained by polymerizing monomers in the presence of a water-soluble polymer compound bearing an alcoholic hydroxyl group in an aqueous medium, and gives an odor intensity of at most 200,000 measured according to JIS K 0101 for the polymer latex having a solid content concentration of 30 wt%.
