6-ALKOXY-2-NAPHTHALENETHIOL AND ITS PRODUCTION METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new thiol compound in which an SH group is directly introduced into its naphthalene skeleton and having high usability as the raw material of a sulfonium salt prospective as a photo-acid generator or other sulfur-containing compounds, and also to provide a method for production thereof. SOLUTION: A new 6-alkoxy-2-naphthalenethiol shown by chemical structure (1) is produced from a commodity type alkali metal salt (4) of 6-naphthol-2-sulfonic acid as a starting material through etherification (process-1), chlorosulfonation (process-2) and reduction (process-3). Since the SH group is directly introduced into the naphthalene skeleton of the thiol compound, the compound has a prospective use as the photo-acid generator by inducing into the sulfonium salt and also is useful as the raw material of various sulfur-containing compounds.
