PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing a mineral acid salt (II) of anω-mercaptoalkylpyridine with a reduced amount of by-products even when brought into contact with air. SOLUTION: The method for preparing the mineral acid salt (II) of anω-mercaptoalkylpyridine represented by formula (II) [wherein n' is an integer of 0-2, and when n' is 0, a group -(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>n'</SB>- is a single bond; q' is an integer of 0-2; and r' is a valence number of an anion in the mineral acid (z)] comprises reacting theω-mercaptoalkylpyridine represented by formula (I) (wherein n' and q' are the same as defined above ) with a mineral acid (z) in the presence of water in the presence or absence of a hydrophobic organic solvent in a manner such that the pH is≤2 on completion of the reaction.
