<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To narrow down information that a user desires, to retrieve and display it and to speedily grasp an information amount at every type of information. <P>SOLUTION: A picture extracting part 301 extracts a picture near a position detected by a pointer position detecting part 301a among inputted pictures, and supplies it to a recognition part 302. The recognition part 302 recognizes the picture by using recognition DB 303, and supplies a recognition result to a retrieval part 304. The retrieval part 304 retrieves a retrieval picture file and peculiar data, which correspond to the recognition result, by using retrieval DB 305, and supplies them to a display control part 501. An information amount calculation part 501a of the display control part 501 calculates the information amount at every information amount based on the retrieval result supplied from the retrieval part 304.
