PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an image discriminating function equivalent to that of the conventional manner while minimizing the usage of a storage device to be mounted. SOLUTION: The pixel position of a region under consideration which is faced to one end being a reference in an extension region 60 constituted of M lines and N columns including a region 50 under consideration constituted of P lines and Q columns set in a two-dimensional array pixel data group constituted of I lines and J columns is the position of the K-th line and L-th column. This image reading device is provided with: a first storage means 31 having a capacity of an address J with a memory width being the product of the data width of pixel data and (P-1) and storing the simultaneous execution result of comparison processing and extension processing in extension regions B1 and B2 set in the same line as the region under consideration; a second storage means 32 having a capacity of the address J with a (K-1) bit width and storing the execution result of comparison processing in an extension region D where the region under consideration is already set; and a third storage means 33 having a capacity of the address J with a (M-1) bit width and storing the execution result of extension processing and comparison processing in the region 50 under consideration and the extension region 60.
