PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device capable of accurately controlling a display panel in accordance with a display area and displaying an image with an accurate amount of light in the display device where the display panel is controlled by optical addressing. SOLUTION: The display device is provided with: a display panel 110; an optical system 120 for control light; scanning position detection parts 132, 134 for detecting that control light L is scanning the display area AR2 of the display panel 110; and a control part 130 provided with a scanning speed operation part for calculating the scanning speed of the control light L in each pixel. The control part 130 controls the optical system 120 for the control light L in accordance with an image signal only when the control light L is scanning the display area AR2 on the basis of the detection result from the scanning position detection parts 132, 134, and corrects, on the basis of the calculated scanning speed, the amount of the control light L modulated in accordance with the image signal so that a prescribed pixel exhibits a required gradation level.
