PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the space for the installation of a fixing device and also to reduce costs by reducing the number of part items. SOLUTION: A fixing belt 4 is rotatably stretched between a heat roller 1 incorporating halogen lamps 3, 3 and a support roller 2 disposed near the heat roller 1. The support roller 2 includes a heat pipe 6, and a cooling fan is disposed at one end of the heat pipe 6 in its axial direction. Thus, a part of the fixing belt 4 passed through a fixing nip can be cooled by the heat pipe 6 without providing a dedicated cooling fan that cools the fixing belt 4. This improves the separability of a recording medium from the fixing belt 4 after an image is fixed on the recording medium. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
