PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dialkylphosphinate of a specific metal which has a very low content of a residual solvent, in particular acetic acid, and a telomer product. SOLUTION: The dialkylphosphinate is represented by formula (I) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each the same or different and each denote a straight-chain or branched 1-6C alkyl group; M denotes Mg, Ca, Al, Sb, Sn, Ge, Ti, Fe, Zr, Zn, Ce, Bi, Sr, Mn, Li, Na, K and/or a protonated nitrogen base; and m is 1-4), and is characterized by a telomer content of 0.01-6 wt%. This dialkylphosphinate suppresses the decomposition of surrounding synthetic resins to a low level when it is mixed into the synthetic resins. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
