A lossy dielectric device 100a-e dissipates, absorbs and/or dampens electric fields. The lossy dielectric device 100a-e may be used with any transmission path 60, 62, such as a transmission line 62 or resistor 60 in a probe head 30. The lossy dielectric device 100a-e preferably includes a lossy dielectric material 104a-e contained within a container 102a-e. The container 102a-e is positionable and securable substantially adjacent said transmission path 60, 62 to improve the curve of a frequency response. Preferably, the container 102a-e is insulative, puncture resistant, and thin. In some preferred embodiments, a temporary or permanent connection mechanism 106a-e is also.
