<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a size detection method, a size detection means and an image forming device capable of reducing CPU load. <P>SOLUTION: This size detection method is provided with a sheet detection means 58 for detecting transfer paper P placed on a manual insertion tray 56, a width detection means 57 for detecting a width of the transfer paper P, a length detection means 59 for detecting a length of the transfer paper P, an information detection means 82 for reading information from the width detection means 57 and the length detection means 59, a size identification means 84 for identifying a size of the transfer paper P based on the information from the information detection means 82 in a predetermined period when the sheet detection means 58 detects the transfer paper P, and a time measurement means 85 for notifying that predetermined time passes after the sheet detection means 58 detects placement of the transfer paper.
