PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder, capable of detecting the position of a slider by a position detecting magnet having the same specification regardless of the diameter of a piston. SOLUTION: In this cylinder, side holes 2b, 2c are formed on both side walls of a cylinder tube 2, the side holes 2b, 2c are formed in the longitudinal direction of the cylinder tube 2, and a detecting magnet 4 is movably accommodated in the interior of the side holes 2b, 2c. A cylinder switch 5 for detecting magnetic field is mounted at both ends in the cross direction of the cylinder tube 2. The cylinder switch 5 determines whether or not the detecting magnet 4 exists within a predetermined range by detecting the magnetic field. A yoke magnet 18 is buried in both end parts in the cross direction of a drum part 16 of a piston yoke 15. The yoke magnet 18 and the detecting magnets 4 attract each other by mutual magnetic force, and the detecting magnets 4 are moved with the piston yoke 15 in the side holes 2a, 2b.
