A ceramic fiber band (10) that can fulfill a plurality of functions in connections with the injection and/or extrusion process of an injection molding or extrusion apparatus (20) (i. e. heat, cool and insulate), thereby reducing overall energy costs and creating a safer working environment. The ceramic band (10), being an insulator and having heating and/or cooling elements (40, 50) with a faster response contained therein, exert the desired heating/cooling effect upon the barrel portion (22) of the injection/extrusion machine (20) thereby raising, lowering, or maintaining the temperature of the fluid plastic compound passing through the barrel (22). An rapid reduction of temperature of a barrel portion (22) of an injection or extrusion machine (20) is effectuated by precipitating a vacuum induced flow between blocks comprising said bands and said barrel's exterior surface. |
