<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor in which only a small quantity of heat is conducted to the side of a base end. <P>SOLUTION: The gas sensor is provided with a tube type housing 10. A detecting element 19 is inserted and fixed in the housing 10. The tip side of the housing 10 is provided with a cover 11 on the side of a gas to be measured, and the base end side of the housing 10 is provided with an atmosphere-side cover 12. The external surface of the housing 10 has both a flange part 100 protruding outward in radial directions and a washer member 102 inserted in the external surface of the housing 100 on the tip side ahead of a tip-side face 101 of the flange part 100.
