<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display information required for optimizing an operation of a photoswitch including an improvement of its operating environment in a way for users to easily understand. <P>SOLUTION: On a 1st screen, "a threshold value" is digitally displayed on the 1st display section 17, while "a present amount of received light" is digitally displayed on the 2nd display section 18. Thus the threshold control switch 21 can be operated to perform fine adjustment of threshold values. If an M key 23 is shortly pressed, the display screen is sequentially-switched from the 1st screen and then "maximum value" and "minimum value" of the amount of received light during a fixed period of time are displayed on the 4th screen. On this 4th screen, after a "PhLd" representing maximum value and a "bhLd" representing minimum value are displayed only for 0.25 seconds, the display is automatically switched and maximum and minimum numeric values are displayed. After this digital display is continued for 1 second, it automatically returns to character display of "PhLd" and "bhLd".
