<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exposure element that does not require a mechanical scanning means, is small, reliable, noiseless and inexpensive, and an image forming device using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The exposure element is used in an electrophotographic image forming device, and has a optical waveguide 12, an optical switching means 7 formed in the optical waveguide 12, and a converging means 8 formed at the end of the optical waveguide 12, one or more of which are arranged on a substrate 11.
