PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device to be in a condition of preventing the discharge of a printing paper sheet when a stacker is in a non-used condition, capable of carrying out safety paper recording operation and discharging operation. SOLUTION: This printer comprises a carriage driving roller 21 and a carriage driven roller 22 for carrying the paper sheet, a recording head 14, a discharge driving roller 23 and a discharge driven roller 24 for discharging the paper sheet, and the stacker 6 switchable between a non-used condition for blocking a paper discharge passage and a used condition for stacking the paper sheet. It has a control part for stopping the drive of the discharge driving roller 23 and the carriage driving roller 21 when the condition of the stacker 6 is detected as another than the used condition by a stacker detector 47 for detecting the condition of the stacker 6.
