A direct or indirect paper-coating assembly has an emulsion slit jet whose edges are made of plastic or a carbon compound material with a coefficient of expansion of 0 1/K to 2 x 10-6 1/K. The material is carbon fiber, or polypropylene, or poly-tetra-fluorethylene or a similar low-adhesion plastic. The transverse jet (4) has first (2) and second (3) lips in the direction of travel. The first lip is a blade-like plastic strip (5). The second lip is made of metal e.g. aluminium or stainless steel. The gap between the lips may be adjusted by a suitable mechanism (7) made as a two-part shell (8, 9) of plastic or a compound material.
