PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spacer which reduces movable ions (ionic impurity) in a liquid crystal layer to reduce power consumption, and is free of sticking of liquid crystal, a flicker due to variation in pixel applied voltage that an active LCD used to have, a display defect, etc., and then suitable to a liquid crystal display cell. SOLUTION: The spacer for liquid crystal display cell is characterized in that the mean particle size is 0.5 to 20μm and an ion getter material is included on the surface and/or inside. The spacer contains the ion getter material by 0.05 to 10 wt.% as oxide. The ion getter component is antimony oxide. The liquid crystal cell is equipped with a couple of electrodes and a spacer for the liquid crystal display cell is interposed between the electrodes and/or at a peripheral edge of the liquid crystal layer.
