PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silica sol which has a minimal amount of residual organic materials or metal ions while exhibiting an excellent dispersion-stability. SOLUTION: The silica sol prepared by a specified method and present in the form of a dispersion in a specific hydrophobic organic solvent exhibits the excellent dispersion-stability and contains the silica particles having the minimal amount of the residual organic materials.
