PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for obtaining a nitride with less impurity, for example, high-quality gallium nitride by an industrially applicable method. SOLUTION: The method for producing a nitride of group 4 to 14 metal is carried out by allowing a nitrogen-containing compound adduct of a halogenated group 4 to 14 metal to react with a compound of alkali metal or alkaline earth metal (for example, a nitride of alkali metal or alkaline earth metal).
