<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bit map image rotation method wherein drawn data is rectangularly read by a bit map rotating device and rectangularly written into a memory, and the rectangular image data passed through the bit map rotation is rectangularly read by an encoding circuit, compressed and written into a memory to be image data after the bit map rotation while the data is rectangularly written by another encoding circuit. <P>SOLUTION: There are set a circuit capable of rotating pictures, and compressing and extending image pictures; a means capable of carrying out compression, extension and rotation regardless of an output tone and a rotation angle in the case where an output picture to a printer engine becomes binary or multi-valued; and a means which enables a plurality of data to be taken by one access and by a unit whereby accessing to a DRAM is surely prevented from generating a low wrong cycle in that case.
