PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing method, the image layer component of which has a certain extent of affinity to water, which has high plate wearability resistance and in which the exact formation of a desired image after the image-wise exposure on a printing plate can visually be confirmed, and printing plate material employed therein. SOLUTION: In the printing method, in which an image forming layer image-formable under heat is provided on a support so as to make mountable for printing onto a printing machine without being applied by developing treatment with a processing liquid after an image-wise heating, the acidity-basicity of the coating liquid of the image forming layer is made to be different from that of the dampening water employed in printing.
