PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotation detecting apparatus for detecting short-circuit faults or earth faults in which a resolver and peripheral circuits do not anomalously generate heat. SOLUTION: The rotation detecting apparatus includes a rotation angle detecting means for detecting the angle of rotation of a rotator on the basis of an output signal of the resolver; an excitation signal supply means for supplying an excitation signal for generating the output signal in the resolver; an anomaly detecting means for detecting anomalies in an excitation signal output terminal for outputting the excitation signal or in an excitation signal line for transmitting the excitation signal; and an electric power supply halting means for halting the supply of electric power for the excitation signal supply means in the case that anomalies in the excitation signal output terminal or in the excitation signal line are detected by the anomaly detecting means.
