摘要 <p>A light distributor is positioned between the light source and measuring cell in order to spread out the light emitted by the light source. The distributor comprises sand-blasted glass, a plastic film or a hologram. The device comprises a measuring cell for positioning the diamond, a light source with at least two LED's for illuminating the diamond with beams of light and a sensor for measuring light intensity in the measuring cell. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring the color of a diamond comprising the following steps: (1) illuminating an empty measuring cell using light at two different wavelengths, preferably 415 nm and 425 nm; (2) measuring light intensity at each wavelength; (3) calculating the ratio between the measured light intensities in order to determine a correction factor; (4) placing the diamond in the cell above a sensor which can only receive light which has passed through the diamond; (5) illuminating the diamond in the cell with light at the previously used wavelengths; (6) measuring light intensity at each wavelength; (7) using the correction factor to correct the measured light intensity; (8) determining the amount of light absorbed by the diamond; and (9) assigning a color to the diamond on the basis of the amount of light absorbed by it.</p>
