A self-locking orthodontic bracket includes a supporting base (10) and transversely spaced tying lugs (12) interrupted by a transverse archwire slo t (18, 20). A closure mounted on the bracket includes a movable cover (21, 50) slidably overlapping an anterior surface (17) across the bracket. The closu re is supported by sliding guides (30, 22) that engage opposed side surfaces (15 o r 16) of the tying lugs (12). A transverse flat spring (28) is recessed within thefixed wall to selectively engage indented areas (33) on the posterior surface ofthe cover (21, 50) and serves as a detent. The d etent selectively positions the cover (21, 50) in an open or closed position relative to the archwire slot ( 18, 20).
