A pharmaceutical composition contains at least one immunomodulating peptide, eventually a protein (protein fragment) together with an adjuvant, whereby peptide is derived from a pathogen or a tumour antigen. The adjutant has the ability to increase the binding of the peptide to the cells of the individual to be treated or eventually increase the absorption of the peptide by the cells and intensify the immunomodulating effect of the peptide. Preferred adjuvants are basic polyamino acids, such as polyarginine or polylysine, which are optionally conjugated with a cellular ligand, for example a carbohydrate group or transferrin. The pharmaceutical composition is used in particular as a vaccine, for example a tumour vaccine.
