The invention relates to a batch composition especially for producing a refractory shaped body. Said composition comprises at least one refractory metal oxide component and one artificial resin component as the binder and one graphitization agent for obtaining crystalline graphite carbon from the resin. Said graphitization agent is selected from the group of the reducible organic compounds of the transition elements andor the group of the active organic or inorganic metal compounds or metals, such as resinsoluble metal salts, chemically precipitated or micronized metal oxides or metals. At the time andor temperature interval of the conversion of the artificial resin to carbon (coking), the graphitization agent is available in molecular form.
