[Also in Group XXIII] Low melting temperature glasses for sealing materials, bases for glazes and enamels or encapsulants for thermally-sensitive semi-conductor diodes consist basically of arsenic sulphide containing a compatible amount of an additive which is elemental halogen or a metallic halide. Preferred glasses have the systems As-S-SnI 4 and As-S-I. Other additives specified are iodides of heavy metals Hg, Bi, Tl and Cd, arsenic bromide, chloride and fluoride, silver chloride and antimony fluoride. The batch materials are gradually heated to produce a homogeneous mass in a non-oxidizing atmosphere such as argon or nitrogen, or a smallnecked container is used. U.S.A.
