PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic configuration system of an AV system and a configuration method of the AV system by which paths of AV signals are automatically configured. SOLUTION: System configuration information which defines paths of audio signals among AV units 11 configuring the AV system corresponding to different combinations of the AV units 11 is stored in a system information server 3. A system controller 13 collects unit identifiers from the AV units 11 through a LAN and communicates them to the system information server 3. The system information server 3 gives system configuration information corresponding to the combination of the AV units 11 represented by the indicated unit identifiers in response to it. The system controller 13, upon receiving the response, sets the destination of the audio signals of the AV units 11 via the LAN so that the paths of audio signals defined by the system configuration information can be realized.
