619,955. Automatic control. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Jan. 21, 1946, No. 1952. Convention date, Jan. 23, 1945. [Class 38 (iv)] Voltage.-The voltage of an alternator 23 is regulated by a carbon-pile regulator in series with the shunt-connected field-winding 8 of the exciting generator 1, the regulator having (1) a main and comparatively slow-acting winding 75 energized over a rheostat 62 in accordance with the voltage between phase wires 30, 31; (2) a somewhat more quickly operating winding 55 shunted across the winding 8; and (3) a quick-acting winding 50 in series with winding 8 but receiving current also in opposition from a transformer 42 and rectifier 85 in accordance with the load on the alternator. The effect of the association of windings 50, 55 with winding 8 is to oppose the changes in the current in winding 8 dictated by the main regulator winding 75 and so to prevent hunting. A droop of the voltage/load characteristic is prevented by the opposing current in winding 50 derived from the transformer 42. Specification 608,508 is referred to. |
