A device detects a tag for a carrier medium so as to make a detection tag (DT) available. A communications device fetches a public code for an encryption algorithm from a code store via a message channel. Devices detect an encoded version of the tag, decode it with the public code so as to make a reference tag (RT) available and compare the RT with the DT. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) A method for checking the allocation of a memory to a carrier medium; (B) and for a computer program with program code for carrying out the method of the present invention.
