Lighting system of light emitting diodes is used to illuminate tip of cutting tool in measuring system

The tip of a cutting tool [10a] such as drill bit is inspected and measured in a machine system.The tip is illuminated by the light produced by a number of light emitting diodes, LED, [18]. The output of each LED is focussed onto the tool tip by an acrylic lens [22]. The objective lens of a camera [16] is set in the centre obtain key images of the tool tip.
