Method for playback of audio data by: provision of audio data packets or reference data for audio data in a data structure with more than two planes; navigation via a data structure; selection of audio packets or reference data to playback and playback of the selected audio data packets or the selected reference data. According to the method the data structure is reduced to one or two planes, so that navigation through the data structure takes place in at most two planes. An independent claim is made for a device for playback of audio data, e.g. MP3 tracks and or radio channel data.
