<p>An optical switch for switching the coupling between a movable optical fiber and a fixed optical fiber. The optical switch comprises a soft-magnetic movable block fixed to an end of the movable optical fiber, a soft-magnetic fixed flock fixed to a fixed optical fiber and at a position opposed to the movable block, an actuator for moving the movable block with respect to the fixed block, and means for positioning the movable block with respect to the fixed block. The actuator is provided with a yoke having a base and a pair of arms connected to both ends of the base and sandwiching the movable block in the moving direction, a permanent magnet attached to the base of the yoke, and a coil provided to at least one arm. Irrespective of the position of the movable block, the magnetic flux produced by the permanent magnet in a first gap between one of the arms and the movable block is more than that in a second gap between the other arm and the movable block.</p> |
