<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely and stably detect the thickness of a leaf or substance of that sort by noncontact operation. <P>SOLUTION: A device has a pair of conveyor belts 1, 2 for conveying a leaf or substance of that sort P along a conveyance way 10, and a fixed guide member 8 and a movable guide member 9 counterposed being separated with the conveyance way 10 between, and is equipped with a guide means for making the leaf P pass between these fixed and movable guide members 8, 9 and guiding the leaf, a coil spring 18 for elastically urging the movable member 9 toward the fixed member 8, nozzles 21, 22 provided on the opposed surfaces of the guide members 8, 9, a pump 20 for jetting compressed gas out between the pair of guide members 8, 9 through the use of these nozzles 21, 22, permanent magnets 40 provided in the movable member 9, Hall sensors 39 provided in the fixed member 8 to detect the magnetic field strength of the permanent magnets 40, and a processing circuit 47 for detecting the thickness of the leaf P on the basis of these magnetic field strength detected by the Hall sensors 39 when the leaf P passes. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
