PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly and surely eject accumulated ink from a stagnation part of a common ink chamber of a recording head through a nozzle of the recording head in a short period of time. SOLUTION: The recording head comprises: a common liquid chamber to which a liquid is supplied; a plurality of main nozzles for use in recording, which are each arranged at predetermined intervals on both the sides of the common liquid chamber along the longitudinal direction of the common liquid chamber; a plurality of dummy nozzles which are not used for the recording and which are arranged on both the arrangement-direction sides of the main nozzle along the arrangement direction of the main nozzle; and a plurality of liquid chambers wherein the main nozzles and the dummy nozzles are each opened and which each communicate with the common liquid chamber. A recording apparatus, which drives and controls the recording head for performing the recording on a recording medium by ejecting the liquid from the main nozzles, performs and controls a toggle pre-ejection operation for alternately switching between the main nozzle and the dummy nozzle in each column which serves as a total nozzle drive cycle for the main nozzle and the dummy nozzle.
