PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a magnetic recording medium by which the magnetic recording medium having enhanced durability can be obtained by preventing the sticking of a release agent to the surface of a protective layer. SOLUTION: When the magnetic recording medium formed with a metal thin film magnetic layer, a protective layer and a lubricant layer successively on one surface of a non-magnetic substrate and formed with a back coat layer on the other surface is manufactured, a film having a release agent containing a coating layer on one surface thereof is used as a non-magnetic substrate and after the metal thin film magnetic layer is vapor-deposited on the surface opposite to the release agent containing coating layer, the back coat layer is formed on the release agent containing coating layer of the non-magnetic substrate before the protective layer is formed on the metal thin film magnetic layer.
