PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide "an electronic apparatus and a data recording method" in which the selectivity of data becoming objects to be compressed is increased. SOLUTION: The remaining capacity of a hard disk unit 29 is managed by the capacity management part 30 of a system controller 19. When the remaining capacity of the hard disk unit 29 becomes lower than a set value which has been preset, the system controller 19 selects audio data which is already recorded in the hard disk unit 29 and reads the selected audio data from the hard disk unit 29 via a hard disk controller 28 and outputs the read audio data to an encoder 27, and the encoder 27 prepares compressed audio data. After the system controller 19 deletes the selected audio data before compression from the hard disk unit 29, the controller 19 writes the compressed audio data in the hard disk unit 29.
