PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exclude necessity of logical seek caused by an error in controlling a carriage stopping position of a serial printer. SOLUTION: During a main scanning of the present time (the N-th time), the first dot position Pfd(N+1) at the main scanning of the next time (the N+1 time) is grasped. Then, from the first dot position Pfd(N+1) of the next time (the N+1-th time), at a position Pf-end(N+1) shifted by a distance Laux+Loff obtained by adding a run-up distance Laux necessary at the minimum during acceleration and an offset value Loff for offsetting an errorΔL in controlling the carriage stopping position, a target stopping position Pstp(N) of the present time is set.
