Device (A) for classification of process conditions which processes measured data on 'inert' process values (X) in systems where process-relevant changes occur over long time intervals (minutes or hours). Device (A) for classification of process conditions which processes measured data on 'inert' process values (X) in systems where process-relevant changes occur over long time intervals (minutes or hours). The device includes a unit for data manipulation and processing of (X), as regards smoothing, filtration etc. and also a neuronal and/or fuzzy-based processing unit (PU1) that outputs an indication of the process condition (PC). The new feature is that it also includes a unit (PU2) which consolidates the processed values of (X), from PU1, into a process characteristic that describes the condition of the process within the change interval.
