<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process cartridge capable of recording information for controlling the state of the process cartridge, and an image forming apparatus capable of setting a control method in accordance with the information for controlling the state of the process cartridge. <P>SOLUTION: When the process cartridge 2 is attached to the image forming apparatus 1 and when the image is formed, whether or not the process cartridge 2 has a recording medium 3 is detected by a process cartridge detection part 9. When the process cartridge 2 has the recording medium 3, image forming operation is performed on the optimum image forming condition (C) inherent to the apparatus 1 possessed by the apparatus 1 based on control information 4 recorded on the recording medium 3.
