<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a color separation and composition device suitable for a color liquid crystal projector by which a high-contrast projected image is obtained. <P>SOLUTION: In the color separation and composition device having a color separation and composition system which makes illumination light emitted from a light source means incident on an optical unit constituted of a color separation element and a polarization split element, decomposes the illumination light into first to third colored light, makes the first to third colored light incident on first to third image display elements arranged for every colored light, performs color composition of each colored light modulated by the image display elements and emits the colored light from an emitting surface and a holding member which holds the color separation and composition system, the color separation and composition system has a prism member having an optical surface which performs polarization split action or/and a polarization composition action inside and an optical transmission means is provided with an antireflection means at a part of the holding member facing the optical surface which does not pass any of each colored light emitted from the emitting surface among respective optical surfaces of the prism member. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
