<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Q switch optical fiber laser whose operation is stable, and whose output is high by preventing rare earth element addition fiber itself or an optical element connected to this from being damaged. <P>SOLUTION: This Q switch optical fiber laser is equipped with at least a rare earth element addition fiber 103 having a plurality of cores made of silica glass added with rare earth elements, and Q switch elements arranged in the neighborhoods of the both ends of the rare earth element addition fiber 103. The rare earth element addition fiber 103 is set with the refractive index of each core so that lights to be wave-guided through each core can be operated in a single mode; a first optical fiber grating 104 and a second optical fiber grating 105 are formed, so that refractive index distribution is periodically formed in each core along the longitudinal direction of the rare earth element addition fiber 103, and that the refractive index distribution of each core is synchronized; and the second optical fiber grating 105 is attached with a piezoelectric element 106. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
