PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing (meth)acrolein or (meth)acrylic acid comprising performing vapor phase catalytic oxidation reaction of an oxidizable substance such as propylene, propane, isobutylene, and (meth)acrolein with a molecular oxygen or a molecular oxygen-containing gas with the use of a multitubular reactor equipped with one or more layers of catalyst layers in the tube axis direction, which method inhibits a rapid rise in temperature to prevent the catalyst from deactivating and performs stable manufacturing even after changing the reaction conditions for raising reaction temperature to increase the production speed. SOLUTION: In this manufacturing method, changing of reaction conditions for increasing the reaction temperature is performed by changing the inlet temperature of a heating medium for regulating the reaction temperature provided in the multitubular reactor and in this instance, (1) changing of the inlet temperature for the heating medium is performed by≤2°C per one changing operation, and furthermore (2) in the case of successively performing the changing operation, the changing operation is performed 10 minutes apart from the immediately prior changing operation.
