PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the efficiency of the wire cleaning operation and improve the working efficiency of a crane by automatically performing the works to remove rust or foreign matters from the wire surface and to apply grease without requiring labor. SOLUTION: A wire cleaning device of running type to clean the surface of a wire installed in the air is equipped with a wire surface cleaning means to remove the dirt from the wire surface and wash and an oil applying means to apply grease to the wire with the surface cleaned by the cleaning means, characterized by that the device is attached to the wire in such a way as capable of running along the wire length.
